About the event
Secure firearm storage is an essential part of home safety. With more guns in more homes due to an unprecedented surge in gun sales over the past two years, it’s more important than ever for parents and caregivers to know how secure storage protects children. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a rise in unintentional shootings by children and gunfire on school grounds. And in 2020, gun suicide among children ages 17 and under reached the highest rate in more than 20 years. Firearms became the leading cause of death among children in the United States. Storing firearms securely can help prevent these tragedies and keep kids safe.
Join us on February 6th to learn more about Be SMART (besmartforkids.org) with a short presentation followed by discussion about the Be SMART framework. We will share how this program is designed to help parents and adults normalize conversations about gun safety and take responsible actions that can prevent child gun deaths and injuries. The presentation will be led by Twila and Shannon, two volunteers with the Dane County Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America Group. Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a volunteer lead, nonpartisan group of community members working to end gun violence across our nation. To get involved or learn more go to momsdemandaction.com
Twila and Shannon will speak from 6 - 7 PM. The remaining time is reserved for sharing and support. If you RSPV, we will send you a link to join us via Zoom the night before the meeting. There is no need to RSVP if you're joining us in person.
